Program Overview

Looking to refine your mining engineering knowledge? Gain a competitive edge in today’s job market with our Master of Engineering program. This one-year, coursework-based program will give you the opportunity to study advanced courses in your field of interest in the mining industry and prepare you to solve broad problems in the mining industry. The program is designed to provide the mining industry with specialist personnel capable of solving broad problems either as mining or research company employees or consultants.

Admission and Application

The requirements for completion are as follows:

  1. Completion of eight (8) term-length courses.
  2. At least 6 of the courses should be selected from the list of compulsory courses that are offered in Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining (maximum of two online courses allowed).
  3. A maximum of two courses can be at the 400 undergraduate level.
  4. Students have the option to take MINE 898, a project-based course that counts towards the required eight courses total. 
  5. Take a non-credit course, APSC 801 Master of Engineering Foundations.

In addition, students are required to complete training on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), through the online course in Accessible Customer Service as part of their graduate degree program and before being approved for graduation. 

Minimum GPA requirement: 2.7 in a 4 year Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering, Resources Engineering, Geological Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

The MEng program is on campus, full-time. MEng students are self-funded.

Applicants whose native languages do not include English will be required to obtain satisfactory standing in an English Language Proficiency Test as part of the application process and before final acceptance is granted. See the School of Graduate Studies’ TOEFL minimum score requirements. Applicants must meet the minimum score requirement for each test and the minimum overall score requirement.

Funding

The department does not provide funding for MEng students. MEng students are entirely self-funded.

How long does the MEng program take to complete?


The MEng program offers students the option to complete their degree in either two (Fall/Winter) or three (Fall/Winter/Spring) academic terms. The academic requirements for degree completion are identical for both 2-term or 3-term streams. The overall tuition amount for both options is equal; per-term billing, however, is determined by dividing the total tuition for the academic year by the number of academic terms that the student is scheduled to participate in the program for that academic year.
