Dr. Hoang Dang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada, and holds the Mitchell Professorship in Advanced Energy Storage Materials & Technology. He leads the Recharge Lab, where his team develops functional materials and sustainable processing for energy storage technologies that make clean energy more reliable and widely accessible. He has authored 17 peer-reviewed publications, is an inventor on 3 patents in the field of energy storage technologies, and recipient of numerous awards including the Vallet Scholarship, VEF Fellowship, and a Young Lecturer Award.

Variable renewable energy sources like solar and wind require efficient, cost-effective storage to reliably balance supply and demand. While lithium-ion batteries dominate for their high performance and scalable production, they still face challenges in cost, safety, lifespan, and recycling—issues that are increasingly critical with the rapid expansion of the electric vehicle revolution. We tackles these challenges by developing novel materials and chemistries, and advancing sustainable battery practices.
