Purpose

The Smith Engineering Reimagining Engineering Education Award recognizes the development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning practices at the undergraduate level in support of Reimagining Engineering Education priorities. This includes novel and impactful pedagogical approaches, the incorporation of a research mindset for complex problem solving, advancing interdisciplinarity, and working with communities to provide solutions that benefit society.

Eligibility

All tenured and tenure-track faculty who are members of the Stephen J. R. Smith Faculty Board are eligible.

Funding Details

A total of up to $30,000 will be awarded annually to up to three recipients, with a minimum grant of $10,000 and a maximum grant of $15,000 per award. Funds may be used to support their future teaching and/or research. In addition, recipients will also receive the Smith Engineering Leadership in Teaching Award, which includes $1,000 for personal use.

Application Details

One or more nominations by heads of departments or by other faculty members, using the nomination form link. Nominations are to be submitted through the nomination form link no later than March 31, 2026.

Adjudication Process

The award will be adjudicated by a committee of faculty members and staff as selected by the Dean. Award recipient(s) will be presented with the award at the annual Smith Engineering Dean’s Showcase of Teaching and Learning.
