The Department of Chemical Engineering was proud to participate in this year’s Science Rendezvous, a regional outreach event that brings science to life through free, hands-on activities for the community. Hosted locally by Queen’s University, the event welcomed visitors of all ages to explore interactive exhibits and connect with researchers and students.

At the Department’s booth, Sparks, Snow, and Sound: Igniting Your Senses, attendees experienced science in action through three engaging demonstrations. Visitors explored sound waves through “Dancing Oobleck,” created instant snow using super-absorbent polymers, and witnessed electrochemistry at work by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen—culminating in a high-energy “Boom Tube” finale.
The booth was led by a dedicated team of student volunteers from Chemical Engineering— DJ Campbell, Joshua Buzolic, Amanda Pacholczak, Joseph Keenan, Shivanthi Dharmarathna, Diego Abad, Ariella Liberati, and Abby Haramis—alongside the Chemical Engineering (Biomed) team: Meghan Van Buuren, Skylar Knibbs, Kathryn Jalink, and Meera Mistry.
Through events like Science Rendezvous, the Department continues to inspire curiosity and make science accessible to the broader community.
